Cathy Tahmassebi served 20 years on Concord School Board
Mrs. Cathy Tahmassebi was elected to the Concord School Board in May 1998 and took office on July 1 of that year.
In her 20 years in this role, she’s worked alongside Superintendents George Dyer, Wayne Stubbs, and John Trout and has played an important role in supporting students, staff, and the whole Concord community.
During her tenure, she served as board president from 2001-2002 and again in 2009, and also held the roles of vice president and secretary. From 2011 to 2017, she served as the Region 2 representative on the Indiana School Boards Association Board of Directors and for the past year has served in the role of second vice-president.
She’s been a staunch advocate for public education, calling on state lawmakers to provide additional funding to support increases in teacher pay, updates to school facilities, and the creation of college- and career-focused opportunities for our students.
Over the past 20 years, the district has grown from 4,220 students to nearly 5,400 students, a new junior high has been built, land has been purchased to accommodate future expansion, and renovations or improvements have occurred at every school and support facility in the district. Under the leadership of Mrs. Tahmassebi and others, the district’s local, state, and national reputation for excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts has greatly increased.
In recent years, Mrs. Tahmassebi has helped to lead and support student academic growth. Today, Concord is in the 89th percentile of growth in the state of Indiana. That’s an incredible achievement and we’re grateful for the role Mrs. Tahmassebi played in making it possible.Over the past two years, Mrs. Tahmassebi has helped lead the planning and implementation of a $50,000,000 Master Facilities Plan that will help lead us into the future.
We’re truly blessed at Concord Community Schools to be led by a kind, caring school board and Mrs. Tahmassebi is no exception. Being a school board member is without a doubt a challenging role, but one that is vitally important to helping our staff prepare children to lead successful lives.
Mrs. Tahmassebi has done an outstanding job of representing her community and we’re fortunate to have had her thoughtful, dedicated leadership for so many years.
