Make-A-Wish 2019 kicks off at Concord Junior High

Make-A-Wish 2019 kicks off at CJHS

Concord Junior High School’s “Dream Team” kicked off the 2019 Make-A-Wish campaign Thursday, March 7, with an inspirational story shared by the father of a Make-A-Wish child and a promise to work together to make dreams come true.

Students and staff will raise money throughout the month of March to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.

The fundraising activities began March 7, 2019 and will conclude on March 29, 2019.  During this time, students and staff will be working together to raise funds to grant the wishes of local children. All proceeds from the various fundraisers will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“This program teaches our students the concepts of philanthropy and the importance of helping others in a community setting,” said CJHS Principal Rob Zook. “Kids for Wish Kids teaches our students compassion and benevolence for their peers who are facing medical challenges. We believe that the hands-on experience with this program is an outstanding extension of the classroom.”

During the opening ceremony, CJHS teacher Cheryl Stouder shared the 2019 theme “Dream Team: One Dream, One Team” and encouraged students to work together to contribute.

We are asking you to become a hero for a make-a-wish child and make their dream come true. If we work together as a team to provide the money to grant the wishes, we can make their dream come true,” she said.

Stouder then introduced guest speaker Joe Varga, whose daughter Mary Cate was a Make-A-Wish recipient in April 2017.

This year, students and staff will be raising money to benefit three local children:
