East Side Elementary named state qualifier; Ox Bow wins ‘Team on the Rise’ award
DUNLAP — Four groups of science-savvy Concord Community Schools students put their knowledge to the test during Saturday’s First LEGO League E3 qualifying tournament.
Thirty-nine students from all four Concord Community Schools elementary schools — East Side, West Side, South Side and Ox Bow — participated in the event held Saturday, Nov. 3, at Elkhart Memorial High School.
The Ox Bow Orbiters won the “Team on the Rise” award during the event. The East Side Orbiters qualified for the state competition and will compete in the State Robotics Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Purdue University Fort Wayne.
In the First LEGO League program, students design and build robotic vehicles, learn simple computer programming language, and then write programs to operate robots on a playing surface. Using an official First LEGO League competition table, students attempt tasks to gain points in a competitive environment. Saturday’s competition also included group presentations in front of a panel of judges.
